Kathleen Matthews running for Van Hollen’s seat

WASHINGTON — Kathleen Matthews, Marriott International’s executive vice president and chief global communications and public affairs officer, and wife of MSNBC’s Chris Matthews, will run for Rep. Chris Van Hollen’s House seat.

Kathleen Matthews, once a popular ABC7 anchor, is talking with Democratic activists and interviewing consultants, POLITICO reports.

A Chevy Chase, Maryland resident, Matthews sits on the boards of Catholic Charities Foundation, Ford’s Theatre and Shakespeare Theatre Co. and has long talked about running for political office.

Van Hollen announced Wednesday that run for the Senate seat being vacated by Sen. Barbara Mikulski.
