No bail for man charged with killing 95-year-old veteran

WASHINGTON — A Montgomery County judge denied bail for a man charged with stabbing a 95-year-old man to death in the retirement community where they both lived.

In asking for bond to be denied to Eric S. Dyson, 60, prosecutors referenced Dyson’s lengthy criminal history and the brutality of the crime.

Dyson is charged with the murder of Dan Belvin, who was found stabbed to death in his apartment at the Randolph Village Senior Living community Monday.

“We were able to say in court today that it was sharp force trauma to the neck and head area. It’s a situation where he’s accused of a very brutal murder,” says Ramon Korionoff, with the state’s attorney’s office for Montgomery County.

In front of Judge Barry Williams, Korionoff says prosecutors noted Dyson’s long list of prior offenses in Maryland, which date back 40 years and include drug possession, assault and fraud.

“We did mention his priors are part of a criminal context that should be considered when holding someone on bond,” Korionoff says.

Dyson is also charged with theft, identity theft and using credit cards that belonged to Belvin.

Belvin served in the Navy.
