WASHINGTON — The man who plead guilty to impersonating a firefighter in Montgomery County has been sentenced.

Kevin Kraft, 44, will spend 30 days in prison after a sentence of 3 years with all but 30 days suspended. He’ll serve 5 years of probation.

Prior to his arrest in 2014, he had been responding to fires in the Montgomery County area, having even outfitted his Kia Sorrento with emergency lights.

He dressed in firefighting gear including a vest with EMS patches on the front and back.

“This defendant has 30 days in prison to think about what he did.   He undermined the public confidence in our hardworking and heroic first-responders.  When the public sees flashing lights and hears blaring sirens it needs to know that these are real emergency services personnel – and pull over to the side of the road.  Thanks to good police work we were able to put Kraft behind bars,” said Public Affairs Director Ramon Korionoff in a news release.

In November, Ramon Korionoff, spokesman for the Montgomery County State’s Attorney’s Office, said Kraft also has a prior conviction of arson.
