Fugitive treasure hunter due back in Florida court

WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) — A deep-sea treasure hunter accused of bilking his investors is due back in court in Florida.

Tommy Thompson will appear before a federal judge Thursday morning in West Palm Beach.

He made a historic find of gold 27 years ago, but those who invested in his pursuit of the shipwreck said they never got their fair share. He disappeared amid demands he appear in an Ohio courtroom and is charged with criminal contempt.

It’s the fourth court appearance for Thompson since being caught two weeks ago. He has repeatedly cited his poor health in previous hearings.
