Two injured in small plane crash near Fort Meade airport

WASHINGTON – Anne Arundel County authorities say two people were injured when a small plane crashed near the Tipton Airport Sunday. Anne Arundel County Fire officials tell WTOP the crash happened around 1:55 p.m., when a small aircraft crashed into trees near the airport. According to Maryland State Police, the plane is believed to have crashed after taking off from Tipton Airport. Crews responded to the scene of the crash, and found the single-engine plane on its top in a wooded area. Fire officials say two people were on board, a 55-year-old man and an 80-year-old man. It took crews 50 minutes to get them both out of the aircraft. They were taken to the University of Maryland Shock Trauma in Baltimore with serious, but not life-threatening, injuries.

State Police say the two men were the only people on-board the plane. It is unclear at this time what caused the plane to crash. Federal aviation officials have been notified.
