For 80th anniversary, Monopoly doles out real money

WASHINGTON — One lucky Monopoly fan in France will be surprised with $20,580 euros when they purchase the 80th anniversary edition of the classic board game.

The idea was to celebrate the game’s 80th anniversary in France by replacing Monopoly money with real money for one lucky winner, reports TIME magazine.

The company that makes the game, Hasbro France, told AFP, “When we asked our French customers, they told us they wanted to find real money in their Monopoly boxes.”

In France, there will be real money in 69 of the anniversary sets. However, only one will be stocked full of it.
