WASHINGTON — Airplane passengers don’t like to hear the words “Ladies and gentlemen, the landing is going to be a bit bumpy.”
Flying enthusiast flugsnug posted video this week of several airplanes trying to land on a runway at Birmingham Airport in a strong crosswind.
Crosswind landings are risky for pilots because the wind blows perpendicular to the runway center line.
Birmingham Airport, in the United Kingdom, is known to have strong crosswinds, particularly during winter months.
Pilots have several techniques to safely land in a crosswind, according to former airline captain David J. Williams.
