Bystander injured in police involved shooting in D.C.

WASHINGTON — A bystander in a barbershop was hit by an errant gunshot, while police in D.C. confronted suspected armed robbers on a busy road in Southeast.

Police Chief Cathy Lanier says it appears a round the officer fired went through a window and hit someone in the barbershop.

The victim’s injury is not life-threatening.

The trouble started shortly before noon on MLK Avenue near Howard Road.

A shop owner flagged down police, after being robbed at gunpoint by three people.

Police chased the suspects until they got stuck in traffic, and one of them got out of the car with a gun in-hand.

As he ran toward one officer, another officer fired, according to police.

“The suspect was not struck, although the three suspects have been taken into custody, and we did recover that weapon,” Lanier says.
