Democrat Murphy elected to vacant Va. House seat

WASHINGTON — Democrat Kathleen Murphy was elected on Tuesday to Virginia’s House of Delegates.

A statement from Speaker William J. Howell, R-Stafford, Tuesday evening congratulated Murphy on her victory in District 34. Murphy fills the vacancy caused by Barbara Comstock’s election to the U.S. House of Representatives.

Murphy defeated Republican Craig Parisot, 51 percent to 49.

Also Tuesday, Democrat Joseph E. Preston defeated Independent W.H. Jones for the District 63 seat.
