WASHINGTON — For the second year in a row, murders in D.C. and Prince George’s County have basically remained the same — but the 2014 numbers reveal a disturbing trend, according to The Washington Post.

There is a higher number of domestic violence victims in D.C. and Prince George’s County, according to The Washington Post. Also, police saw another sad statistic: an unusual number of children and babies being killed by a parent or caregiver, according to The Post.

Even though overall crime was down in 2014 in D.C. and in Prince George’s County, there were still no small number of homicides. D.C. had 105 homicides compared to 104 in 2013 and Prince George’s County had 54 compared to 56 in 2013.

D.C. began 2014 with a domestic homicide where a man killed his wife.

Of the 54 homicides in Prince George’s County, 19 were domestic violence victims. But of those 19 victims, seven were less than 4 years old.

Montgomery County had more than double the number of homicides in 2014 than 2013. In 2013, there were eight but in 2014 there were 18.

In Northern Virginia, Alexandria had four murders including Ruthanne Lodato a well-loved music teacher. Fairfax County had six as did Loudoun County. Also, Northern Virginia saw several domestic violence victims murdered in 2014.
