Haslett out as Redskins’ defensive coordinator

WASHINGTON – The Washington Redskins announced Wednesday that the team is parting ways with defensive coordinator Jim Haslett. The agreement was mutual, according to a news release.

“Jim and I have had discussions over the last few days and have decided that it’s best for everyone that we have a new Defensive Coordinator for the Washington Redskins. I wish him nothing but the best in the future,” head coach Jay Gruden said in a statement.

“Jay and I mutually agreed it’s time for the Redskins to have a new Defensive Coordinator. I want to thank Dan Snyder, Bruce Allen, Coach Gruden and all the players and fellow coaches for their efforts the last five years and I wish them nothing but the best,” Haslett added, also in a statement. He had been with the team for five seasons.

Haslett’s departure is the first fallout after the Redskins finished 4-12 for their sixth last-place finish in the past seven seasons.

General manager Bruce Allen addressed the media at 10:30 a.m.
