Halep parts ways with coach after less than a year

The Associated Press

Fourth-ranked Simona Halep has parted ways with coach Wim Fissette after less than a year.

A statement posted on Halep’s Facebook page Thursday said: “My collaboration with Wim Fissette will come to an end, following a mutual agreement. It was a good and beautiful year. I want to thank him and wish him good luck in the future.”

Halep hired Fissette in January, having discarded Adrian Marcu after rising from No. 47 to No. 11 in 2013.

This year, the Romanian player rose to a career-high ranking of No. 2 in August after reaching her first career Grand Slam final at the French Open then making the semifinals at Wimbledon.

Halep recently lost to Serena Williams in the final of the WTA Finals.
