SEPT-ILES, Quebec (AP) — A Canadian iron ore manufacturer says an engineer is missing after a train plunged into a river after derailing on Quebec’s North Shore.

The Iron Ore Company said Thursday the engineer was the only person on board the freight train that was transporting empty cars. The train’s locomotive is partially submerged in the Moisie River.

The company says preliminary information suggests a landslide caused the derailment.

Quebec provincial police spokesman Claude Doiron says the accident occurred Thursday morning near Sept-Iles, about 559 miles (900 kilometers) from Montreal.

The freight train was being operated by the Quebec North Shore and Labrador Railway.
