WASHINGTON (AP) — A District of Columbia real estate agent has been charged with stealing more than $300,000 from clients who were trying to buy homes or were loaning him money.

Prosecutors say 56-year-old Mark Alan Wall was arrested Wednesday on charges of theft, mail fraud and money laundering. A federal grand jury had indicted him Tuesday.

Wall has pleaded not guilty. His attorney didn’t immediately return a message seeking comment Thursday.

Prosecutors say that between July 2010 and May last year, Wall convinced potential homebuyers to put down more deposit money than usual, telling them it would strengthen their negotiating power and that he would hold the funds in escrow.

Instead, prosecutors say he spent the money on himself.

Wall owned and operated Woof Real Estate in Dupont Circle.
