NEW YORK (AP) — Stocks are closing at a record as energy prices rebound and as Republicans gained control of the Senate. The Dow Jones and S&P 500 indexes closed at all-time highs today. The S&P 500 rose 11 points, or 0.6 percent, to 2,023. And the Dow rose more than 100 points, or 0.6 percent, to 17,484. The Nasdaq composite fell two points, or less than 0.1 percent, to 4,620.
NEW YORK (AP) — The price of oil is higher today. Benchmark U.S. crude rose for the first time in five days, climbing $1.49 to $78.68 a barrel in New York on a smaller-than-expected increase in overall U.S. oil supplies and a surprise decline in oil supplies at the main U.S. trading hub. Brent crude, a benchmark for international oils, rose 13 cents to close at $82.95 in London.
WASHINGTON (AP) — A private survey shows that companies added 230,000 jobs in October, the most in four months. Payroll processer ADP says the job gains were slightly ahead of the 225,000 added in September, The data indicates steady growth in the past six months has encouraged businesses to step up hiring. That could lead to a healthy job gain in Friday’s government report on jobs and unemployment.
DETROIT (AP) — Electric car maker Tesla Motors has set a quarterly record for deliveries of its Model S sedan, but its losses mounted due to increased engineering costs. Tesla delivered 7,785 cars during the July-September period. That was up 41.5 percent from the same quarter a year ago. But its net loss widened to $74.7 million for the quarter. Tesla had revenue of $932 million.
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Minnie Driver is joining the cast of NBC’s “Peter Pan Live!” She will play the character Wendy Darling as an adult and narrate the musical. Allison Williams is starring in the title role in “Peter Pan Live!”, which also includes Christopher Walken, Christian Borle and Kelli O’Hara in the cast. The musical is scheduled to air Dec. 4 on NBC.
