Grambling State beats Texas Southern 35-7

HOUSTON (AP) — Johnathan Williams threw for two touchdowns and ran for another, and Chad Williams ran for a score Saturday to lift Grambling State over Texas Southern 35-7.

Officials called 21 penalties, including one when Grambling cheerleaders were performing in the end zone while Grambling was threatening to score from the 2.

Grambling (6-3, 6-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) scored 20 seconds into the game when Williams hit Rogers for a 19 yard touchdown pass immediately after Texas Southern (5-4, 3-4) fumbled on its first play from scrimmage.

Williams later hit Edward Cutnoe to make it 14-0 before TSU scored its only touchdown on Homer Causey’s 34-yard pass to Larry Clark III.

Williams scored on an end-around on Grambling’s next drive to give Grambling a 21-7 halftime lead, and then Chad Williams ran around the right end to score in the third quarter.

Backup quarterback Stephen Johnson hit Dominique Leake for a late TD.
