Jockey Julien Leparoux rides 2,000th winner

LOUISVILLE, Ky. (AP) — Jockey Julien Leparoux rode In My Time to a one-length win in Wednesday’s ninth race at Churchill Downs to earn his 2,000th career victory.

The 31-year-old Frenchman has five mounts in the Breeders’ Cup at Santa Anita on Friday and Saturday.

Leparoux, the son of the late jockey and trainer Robert Leparoux, began his racing career at 18. He came to the U.S. in January 2003 and took out his jockey’s license at Saratoga three years later.

Leparoux rode his first winner in his third race on Aug. 18, 2005, at Saratoga. He began riding at Churchill Downs in 2005 and has won nine riding titles at the track. He has career purse earnings of $109,741,659.
