Man charged with shooting Norfolk State student

NORFOLK, Va. (AP) — A Norfolk man faces charges stemming from the robbery and shooting of a Norfolk State University student.

Norfolk police said Wednesday that detectives arrested 19-year-old Brian M. Winston without incident on Monday evening.

Police say in a news release that Winston is charged with malicious wounding, robbery and conspiracy to commit robbery. He also faces weapons charges.

Police say two men approach the student and another Norfolk State student while they were sitting in a car at a store near the campus around 3:15 Monday. One man showed a gun.

The suspects took personal property and other items from the students. One of the students was then shot and the other was assaulted.
