WASHINGTON (AP) — President Barack Obama’s top counterterrorism adviser has been talking with New York City Mayor Bill De Blasio and Police Commissioner William Bratton about the threat posed in the U.S. by terrorist groups and foreign fighters operating in the Middle East.

The Obama adviser, Lisa Monaco, met with the two New York officials Tuesday at the White House to discuss federal, state and local coordination on fighting terrorism. The White House says the three also discussed the government response to West Africa’s Ebola outbreak, including new screening measures at New York’s John F. Kennedy Airport.

The White House says they specifically addressed the threat from foreign fighters, including holders of Western passports, who have joined extremists in the Middle East and could return or enter the U.S.
