Turkish official: No deal yet on base

ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — According to Turkey’s foreign minister, there isn’t a new agreement with the United States on using Turkish bases for operations against the Islamic State militants.

But in comments carried by a state-run news agency, the Turkish official says the two countries have agreed to train and equip fighters.

A government official had told the Associated Press earlier today that Turkey and the United States were still talking about the Incirlik air base as well as Turkish demands for the creation of a no-fly zone and a safe haven for refugees.

Hundreds of thousands of refugees have fled into Turkey from Syria recently ahead of the IS militants.

Yesterday, U.S. defense officials said Turkey would let U.S. and coalition forces use its bases against Islamic State militants.
