Taste Like Candy snaps 6-race skid at Santa Anita

ARCADIA, Calif. (AP) — Taste Like Candy won the $58,000 Cancun Purse for fillies and mares by three-quarters of a length over stablemate Fleet of Gold on Thursday at Santa Anita.

Ridden by Rafael Bejarano, Taste Like Candy ran 1 1/16 miles in 1:43.22 and paid $6, $3.80 and $2.80 as the 2-1 favorite in the field of nine. She had been winless in six starts since earning her first career victory on Oct. 20, 2013.

Fleet of Gold returned $8.40 and $5.20, while Malibu Honey was another 2 1/4 lengths back in third and paid $10.40 to show.

Taste Like Candy and Fleet of Gold are both trained by Hall of Famer Jerry Hollendorfer.

Taste Like Candy followed her first win with a second-place finish in the Grade 1 Hollywood Starlet and was second in the Grade 2 Santa Ynez Stakes. The victory, worth $34,800, increased her career earnings to $236,490, with two wins in seven starts.
