Bluefield College scraps plans for dental school

BLUEFIELD, Va. (AP) — Bluefield College says it has scrapped plans for a dental school.

The college announced Tuesday it has ended a joint venture with Tazewell County to develop the dental care project. The college says it couldn’t land a $15.7 grant from the Virginia Tobacco Indemnification and Community Revitalization Commission.

The college says it’s time to move on to other key initiatives.

The dental school would have served students primarily from southwest Virginia, southern Virginia and Central Appalachia.
