Chechen fugitive arrested in Greece

ATHENS, Greece (AP) — Police in Greece say they have arrested a Chechen man, wanted in Russia for a deadly 2009 grenade attack, who was traveling illegally from Turkey on a boat filled with mostly Syrian migrants.

A statement Tuesday said the 34-year-old man, whose name was not released, was detained on Sept. 5 after the boat carrying 46 people was stopped off the Greek island of Chios.

According to an international warrant issued via Interpol, he is a suspect in the 2009 attack in Russia that caused the death of five police officers.

Police said he had been living in Turkey since 2012.
