Patriots activate Browner, Tyms after suspensions

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. (AP) — The New England Patriots have added cornerback Brandon Browner and wide receiver Brian Tyms to the roster after both served four-game suspensions.

The team had until 4 p.m. Monday to lift the roster exemptions while both missed time for violating the NFL’s substance abuse policy.

The Patriots signed the 6-foot-4 Browner after he started all 38 games he played in with the Seattle Seahawks the past three seasons. He is expected to provide a physical presence in the secondary. Tyms had a solid training camp with the Patriots after catching two passes in seven games with the Cleveland Browns last season.

New England also announced it had released defensive tackle Joe Vellano and placed defensive lineman Michael Buchanan on injured reserve.
