WASHINGTON (AP) — The Newseum will host a memorial for former White House press secretary James Brady, who died in August.

The Newseum says it will host the memorial Friday for Brady, who was the press secretary for President Ronald Reagan. Both men were shot in a 1981 assassination attempt on Reagan.

Brady was partially paralyzed as a result of the shooting. He was 73 when he died Aug. 4 at a retirement community in Virginia.

Vice President Joe Biden is scheduled to speak at the Newseum event, and the memorial will be webcast on newseum.org.

A federal law requiring a background check on handgun buyers bears Brady’s name, as does the White House press briefing room.
