Blue Jackets get down to roster limit with cuts

COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) — The Columbus Blue Jackets have assigned forward Kerby Rychel and defenseman Frederic St. Denis to their American Hockey League affiliate in Springfield, Massachusetts, and have placed forward Brian Gibbons on injured reserve and forward Jerry D’Amigo on waivers.

Earlier Monday, the Blue Jackets signed center Ryan Johansen to a three-year contract worth $12 million. The moves gave the club the maximum 23 players on their active roster.

Those moves came a day after the club claimed forward Jack Skille off waivers from the New York Islanders, and put forward Boone Jenner (broken left hand) on injured reserve, as well as forwards Nathan Horton and Sonny Milano and defenseman Ryan Murray on the injured non-roster list.

Skille had four goals in 16 games with the Blue Jackets last season.
