Central Arkansas gets by Stephen F. Austin 49-39

NACOGDOCHES, Texas (AP) — Taylor Reed threw four touchdown passes and ran for two more scores to lead Central Arkansas to a 49-39 victory over Stephen F. Austin on Saturday night.

Victory was not assured until Tirell Wellmaker scooped up a fumble and ran 75 yards to score with 4:05 remaining

SFA (3-2, 0-1 Southland Conference), trailing by four, had a first down on UCA’s 26 when Ricky Wyatt stripped the ball out of Gus Johnson’s hands. Wellmaker caught it on the bounce.

Zach Conque, who finished with 322 yards passing, quickly led the Lumberjacks down the field. He scored from the 4 and then passed to DJ Ward for 2 to trail 42-39 with 1:27 remaining. The ensuing onside kick failed. Three plays later Reed paused behind his line and then sprinted 40 yards for the clinching score with 1:10 remaining.

UCA (3-3, 2-0) led 21-17 at the half, but trailed 31-28 going into the fourth.
