DC mayoral candidate attends first Nationals game

WASHINGTON (AP) — District of Columbia mayoral candidate David Catania is attending his first Washington Nationals game.

Catania, an independent, is a longtime D.C. councilmember who opposed the deal the city reached with Major League Baseball and the team’s owners to build a stadium for the Nationals. He said at a mayoral debate last month that he had never been to Nationals Park. But he said it wasn’t because of lingering bitterness about the stadium fight. Instead, he said he’s just not a baseball fan.

On Friday afternoon, Catania tweeted a picture of himself in the stands at Nationals Park for Game 1 of the National League Division Series against the Giants. The Nationals are making their second playoff appearance since the franchise moved to Washington in 2005.
