KISO, Japan (AP) — There are concerns about another eruption at a volcano in Japan where 36 people were killed.

Increased seismic activity today has forced rescuers to suspend plans to try to recover at least two dozen bodies that are still near the summit.

Tremors have risen to a level not seen since Saturday evening — hours after the volcano’s initial large eruption. A Japanese earthquake monitor says, “At this point, anything can happen.”

About 80 to 100 relatives and friends of those who never returned from the summit have been waiting for news in a municipal hall in a nearby town.

Rescuers yesterday found five more bodies, bringing the death toll to 36.

Survivors told Japanese media that they were pelted by rocks from the eruption.
