Hearing set on Salem commuter lot expansion

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Department of Transportation is looking for public comment on the proposed expansion of a Park and Ride facility in Roanoke County.

A public hearing on the project is set for Oct. 16 at the department’s district office in Salem. The existing lot at exit 140 on Interstate 81 in Salem would be expanded from 112 parking spaces to about 236 spaces for cars and nine for motorcycles. Other amenities include additional lighting, bike racks, handicap parking, sidewalks and a bus shelter.

Transportation officials will attend the public hearing to answer questions but will not make any formal presentation.
