BALTIMORE (AP) — A Perry Hall man has pleaded guilty to wire fraud conspiracy and aggravated identity theft in a scheme to steal checks for pay and benefits from the city of Baltimore.

Thirty-three-year-old Robert Johnson entered the plea Monday in federal court in Baltimore. He faces a maximum of 20 years in prison at sentencing on Jan. 16.

According to his guilty plea agreement, Johnson and a conspirator who worked in the city’s finance department used stolen personal information to steal employee benefit payouts.

Prosecutors say after city officials became aware of suspicious transactions, Johnson’s conspirator was assigned to conduct the investigation and notified Johnson.
