TORONTO (AP) — Portland Timbers captain Will Johnson has had surgery in Toronto to stabilize a fractured tibia and fibula in his right leg.
The Major League Soccer team made the announcement Sunday, a day after the Portland midfielder and Canadian international was hurt in the first minute of a game against Toronto FC.
Johnson is expected to miss about six months. He collided with Toronto defender Mark Bloom going to the ground for a loose ball near midfield.
Johnson had six goals in 29 games this season.
