WASHINGTON — It’s been decades since streetcars moved people through the streets of Washington, D.C. Now, they’re another step closer to being a real transportation option.

On Sept. 29, streetcars are doing a test run with simulated service along H Street and Benning Road in Northeast. It’s part of the safety testing phase.

That means drivers, bicyclists and pedestrians should be careful and on the lookout.

The simulated service is a milestone, considering there have been numerous delays in getting the streetcars rolling.

Transportation officials are being cautious about giving a hard-fast start date. But they do say passengers could be able to start riding the street cars in November.
