2 violent sex offenders from Texas back in prison

HOUSTON (AP) — Two violent sex offenders who served time in Texas and later moved elsewhere while under state oversight are back behind bars for similar crimes.

The Houston Chronicle (http://bit.ly/1uv2aZB ) reports both men were in a civil commitment program meant to keep high-risk sex offenders in Texas custody after they leave prison.

The newspaper reported Friday that Texas officials never alerted other states about Lloyd Wilson, who in 2004 was sent to Virginia, and Melvin Cody Whipple, who moved to Utah. Both were convicted of sex-related crimes in their new states and sent to prison.

Marsha McLane with the Texas Office of Violent Sex Offender Management says the agency wasn’t aware of the two out-of-state men until last week. Officials found a discrepancy between prison records and number of civil commitment offenders.
