ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) — Midshipmen in 34 rooms at the Naval Academy’s only dormitory have moved to other quarters because of bedbugs.

Academy spokesman Cmdr. John Schofield tells The Capital of Annapolis (http://bit.ly/1oijzNZ ) that the affected midshipmen not only had to leave their quarters in Bancroft Hall, but had to leave behind books, computers, uniforms and other personal items.

Schofield says the academy is providing the midshipmen with extra clothes, linens and study supplies.

There are 1,800 rooms at Bancroft. The rooms with bedbugs will be closed for three or four weeks while exterminators treat them.

This is not the first time the Naval Academy has had a problem with bedbugs. In December 2012, eight dorm rooms were affected in an outbreak.
