Southern knocks off Prairie View A&M 34-24

PRAIRIE VIEW, Texas (AP) — Willie Quinn returned a kickoff 98 yards to spark Southern University to a 34-24 win over Prairie View A&M on Saturday night.

Prairie View had just closed to 17-10 late in the first half following Christopher Barrick’s 16-yard field goal, when Quinn scored. Southern (2-2, 1-0 Southwestern Athletic Conference) stretched the lead to 34-10 before Prairie View (0-3, 0-2) scored again at the start of the fourth quarter. Johnta Hebert scored on a 61 yard run and Arthur Lockett ran in from the 31 for the final score.

Lenard Tillery led the Jaguars, rushing for one touchdown and 135 yards on 24 carries.

Prairie View’s Jerry Lovelocke, preseason first team All-SWAC pick, was slowed as he was intercepted twice and sacked two times. He did throw for 244 yards and one TD. Hebert had 133 yards rushing.
