BETHESDA, Md. (AP) — New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie is in Maryland to show support for Republican Larry Hogan in his campaign for governor.

Christie, who chairs the Republican Governors Association, attended a fundraiser in Bethesda on Wednesday.

He says he believes Hogan has a real chance, even though registered Maryland Democrats outnumber Republicans by a 2-1 margin. The two-term governor says he’s proof Republicans can win in a state with more Democratic voters.

Christie spoke to reporters while walking into the closed fundraiser.

Hogan says more than $400,000 is being raised at the event.
