Top seed Radwanska wins Korea Open opener

SEOUL, South Korea (AP) — Top-seeded Agnieszka Radwanska of Poland began her title defense in comfortable fashion by beating Polona Hercog of Slovenia 6-3, 6-3 in the Korea Open on Tuesday.

Playing her second title of the year, Radwanska set up a second-round match against Chanelle Scheepers of South Africa.

Second-seeded Karolina Pliskova of the Czech Republic, who lost the Hong Kong final last weekend, coasted past Julia Glushko of Israel 6-1, 6-2, and third-seeded Klara Koukalova, also of the Czech Republic, overcame Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 for the second time in five weeks.

No. 4 seed Magdalena Rybarikova of Slovakia and No. 6 Kaia Kanepi of Estonia were also winners, alongside 2008 champion Maria Kirilenko of Russia, who received a wild card in her comeback from a knee injury.
