Lin beats Vinci in 1st round of Guangzhou Open

GUANGZHOU, China (AP) — Lin Zhu of China advanced to the second round of the Guangzhou Open by beating sixth-seeded Roberta Vinci of Italy 6-3, 7-6 (7) Monday.

Shahar Peer of Israel, the 2009 champion, also advanced. She defeated Pauline Parmentier of France 7-6 (8), 6-3 and will meet second-seeded Alize Cornet of France. Cornet defeated Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 6-1, 6-1.

Also, Maria-Teresa Torro-Flor of Spain beat eighth-seeded Annika Beck of Germany 6-4, 7-6 (5), while Alison Riske of the United States, Misaki Doi of Japan and Timea Bacsinszky of Switzerland also advanced.
