RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The Virginia Association of Museums is out with the state’s top 10 Endangered Artifacts.

They range from Virginia’s oldest bateaux to a general store ledger dating to 1798.

The Endangered Artifacts program is designed to create awareness about the importance of preserving history in the care of collecting institutions.

Among the other artifacts making the top 10 are Civil War graffiti in Manassas, a skeleton tank at Fort Lee, a War of 1812 cavalry helmet at the Rockbridge Historical Society in Lexington and a D-Day landing map.

The bateaux — a river boat used for cargo — is located in Charles City, while the ledger is at the Danville Historical Society.
