Report: Va. government IT responsibilities overlap

RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — A new report says there are overlapping responsibilities between the head of the Virginia Information Technologies Agency and the secretary of technology.

The report by analysts with the Joint Legislative Audit and Review Commission says the overlap creates uncertainty about who is accountable for central information technologies decisions.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/1weTvZ1 ) says the report was released Monday during the commission’s meeting at the Capitol.

Legislative analyst Mark Gribbin told the commission that one area of overlap is approving and overseeing contracts for statewide information technologies services.

He recommended that the General Assembly direct the creation of a technical committee to develop legislation reorganizing and clarifying the existing responsibilities of the IT agency’s chief information officer.
