KUALA LUMPUR, Malaysia (AP) — Asian stock markets notched modest gains today while European stocks lost ground in early trading. Futures point to a weak opening session today on Wall Street. A possible severing of Scotland’s centuries-old union with England is alarming international investors. The dollar hit a six-year high against the yen and it also rose against the euro. Benchmark U.S. crude oil rebounded a bit, rising just above $93 a barrel.

BEIJING (AP) — Europe’s biggest business group in China is joining a chorus of calls for Beijing to speed up economic reform and curb the dominance of state companies. The report by the European Chamber of Commerce in China says failure to reform risks an economic slowdown and a possible crisis.

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) — Apple has a big reveal scheduled today. The trend-setting company is expected to rouse the still-slumbering market for wearable computers with a smartwatch or bracelet equipped to monitor health, help manage homes and even buy merchandise. Apple is a late arrival to wearables, though other companies’ efforts haven’t gained traction.

NEW YORK (AP) — Home Depot has acknowledged that its payment systems have been hacked in a data breach that could affect millions of shoppers who used credit and debit cards at its more than 2,000 U.S. and Canadian stores. The breach could turn out to be one of the biggest in history. Home Depot did not say how many cards might be affected, but the largest U.S. home improvement chain did say its investigation into the breach goes as far back as April

NEW YORK (AP) — An ex-portfolio manager convicted of enabling his firm to earn more than a quarter-billion dollars through insider trading is going to prison. A jury found that 40-year-old Mathew Martoma of Boca Raton, Florida, had flattered and enriched two medical doctors to get the secret results of an Alzheimer’s drug trial so he could trade ahead of public announcements. He’s been sentenced to 9 years.
