RICHMOND, Va. (AP) — The number of eagles nesting along the James River is increasing.

The Richmond Times-Dispatch (http://bit.ly/WtYOXH ) reports that a new survey found 223 pairs of eagles nesting along the river this year. That’s up from 205 pairs in 2013. The eagle pairs produced 313 eaglets.

One eagle pair, James and Virginia, has a nest in Richmond. They produced one chick this year.

The survey covers the James River from the Chesapeake Bay to the Powhatan-Goochland Area. It was led by bird expert Bryan Watts.
