HONG KONG (AP) — Unseeded Kiki Bertens of the Netherlands advanced to the second round of the Hong Kong Open by beating eighth-seeded Anna Schmiedlova of Slovakia 6-2, 7-6 (5) Monday.

Bertens had four aces in the second set.

Unseeded Grace Min of the United States also advanced, defeating Julia Glushko of Israel 6-4, 6-2 in a match interrupted by rain.
