Sweet as pie: Mom’s Apple Pie to take over former Hill High Country Store

Many Loudoun County neighbors were heartbroken when the Hill High Country Store in Round Hill closed in the spring, mourning the loss of a local hangout and a go-to spot for blueberry and other pies.

But better pie days are still to come. Mom’s Apple Pie Co. of Leesburg plans to take over the space at 35246 Harry Byrd Highway. The bakery signed a lease last week and hopes to open by the end of October, in time for the height of pie season, confirmed Meredith Thomas of RJL Homes, which owns the property.

Mom’s, which operates shops in Leesburg and Occoquan, will bake the majority of its pies for all three locations out of the space, Thomas said. They will sell the pies retail and offer a small cafe, as well as sell fresh produce from their Lucketts farm.

“They’re really going to do some great things here,” Thomas said. “This already is a destination, but this will really put us on the map.”

Hill High Country Store closed in May after it failed to reach a lease agreement with the landlord, according to its Facebook page. As of June, Hill High was still looking for a new location.
