THOMPSON’S STATION, Tenn. (AP) — The National Park Service has announced a grant of more than $202,000 for preservation of land at the Civil War battlefield at Thompson’s Station in Middle Tennessee.

The funding announced Wednesday is part of more than $1.7 million in grants meant to preserve battlefields threatened with damage or destruction by urban and suburban development.

Located in Williamson County, Thompson’s Station was the site of a March 1863 battle during the Civil War.

Also receiving grants are Civil War battlefields at Ream’s Station and White Oak Road in Virginia and Harper’s Ferry in West Virginia.

The grants are awarded to state and local governments for the acquisition of land or easements near the battlefields.
