Judge accepts insanity plea in Va. triple slaying

MADISON, Va. (AP) — A Newport News man charged with killing three relatives in Madison County has been found not guilty by reason of insanity.

Media outlets report that Madison County Circuit Court Daniel Bouton accepted 27-year-old Rashad Riddick’s insanity plea on Thursday.

The Newport News man will spend the rest of his life in a state mental hospital.

Under the plea agreement, Riddick admitted to killing 55-year-old Clark Jackson, his wife, 53-year-old Karen Lee Jackson, and her daughter, 26-year-old Chante Latrice Davis. Clark Jackson was Riddick’s uncle. The victims were fatally shot in February 2011.

Riddick’s lawyers say he is schizophrenic and was having hallucinations at the time of the shootings.
