WASHINGTON — Jimi Jamison, lead singer of the rock band Survivor, died Sunday. He was 63.

Rolling Stone reports that Jamison joined the group in 1984 and left in 1988, but not before singing on such hits as “The Moment of Truth,” from the movie “The Karate Kid”; “Is This Love”; and “Burning Heart,” which was featured in the soundtrack to “Rocky IV.”

His solo song “I’m Always Here” was the theme song for the TV series “Baywatch.”

Jamison succeeded original lead singer David Bickler, who sang on the band’s biggest hit, “Eye of the Tiger,” Rolling Stone says.

In the 1990s, there was conflict over who owned the rights to the name Survivor, Rolling Stone reports, but all parties eventually made up and recently the band performed with both singers.

The band last played in Morgan Hill, California, on Saturday, Rolling Stone says. The band was scheduled to play again Sept. 12 in Parker, Colorado.
