Frederick Police Chief Thomas Ledwell to retire

FREDERICK, Md. (AP) — Frederick Police Chief Thomas Ledwell is retiring.

Ledwell told The Frederick News-Post (http://bit.ly/1qaXYLm ) on Thursday he has a family situation that requires more time. His 6-year-old daughter has a genetic metabolic condition known as GSD.

Ledwell will leave the post Sept. 23. He says the mayor will determine which of the two assistant chiefs would become acting chief.

Ledwell became acting chief when Chief Kim Dine left the department to become U.S. Capitol Police chief in November 2012.
