New video shows more ATM skimmers around region

WASHINGTON — The Fairfax County Police Department has released a series of videos depicting ATM skimmer devices being installed and removed at local Navy Federal Credit Union locations.

Those locations include:

  • 11180 Lee Highway, Fairfax, Va. 22030 from July 1-7, 2014
  • 7678-D Richmond Highway, Alexandria, Va. 22306 from June 28 to July 6, 2014
  • 1821 Fountain Drive, Reston,Va. 20190 from July 9-11, 2014

ATM skimmers come in a variation of shapes and sizes and fit perfectly over the card slot of an ATM machine to steal credit and debit card information. Fairfax County police spokesman Don Gotthardt has said it’s not uncommon for ATM scams to be a region-wide problem.

Fairfax County Police ask that anyone with information review the video and call Crime Solvers by phone at 1-866-411-TIPS/8477, email or text “TIP187” plus your message to CRIMES/274637 or call Fairfax County Police at 703-691-2131.
